APE EXPO 2008 San Francisco Part I

I recently got invited by Powderfinger Press and my friend Greg Corso, author of And How and winner of 2006's Xeric grant, to join him for the APE Expo 2008 in San Francisco.  APE is one of the country’s largest gatherings of the best in indie comics, offering a venue for exhibitors ranging from self-publishers of minicomics to such large publishers as SLG Publishing, Fantagraphics, Drawn and Quarterly, Oni Press, Top Shelf, and many more. It offers a huge collection of some of the best indie and alternative comics material out there: graphic novels, ’zines, art books, prints, original art, and comics of every size and shape.

Anyhow, I checked the weather and ... rain.  Our plan was to wait till I got out of work which was around 8 pm and head up via automobile (said in the voice of Long Duck Dong).

Itwas a little slow that evening at work, so I sketched some drawings...when I say sketch I mean very unskillfully drawn using pen.  That's a Manticore.

Hunchback?

Okay, got out of work early (fascinating I know, really really interesting)...Skip.  We take off around 8 or 9 pm, driving up the 5.  We drank some Monster drinks, god knows why. It's like battery mixed with fruit punch, colored with coolant.  There we are...the blue dot. Surrounded by nothing....passing by local hotspots such as
Cow-schwitz...

Pit stop, more goddamn caffeine.

and there we are again blue dot. . . 2:19 AM

We arrived in SF around...I dunno, but we considered taxing people around after late night bars for a few extra bucks.

Arrived around 2:30 AM, but couldn't fall asleep...went to bed around 4 AM and tossed all night.  Very comfortable room, but too bad I'm an idiot and couldn't figure out how to unfold a futton. I slept in it Taco style.

Woke up in the morning and we had to go get some shit for the APE convention and our table. I think cards, paper, and table cloth.

I don't.

Nothing like making your friends turn around really quick while they are crossing a street in SF to take a photo.

Greg on his X-box laptop with flashy gadgets for when he plays Halo.  Where's the spoiler on that thang?  Note: Phallic pumpkin stem.

Cryogenics trucks by hospital...exploding I think. Later, frozen hearts, lungs, and kidneys.

Finally after going to Mervyns and Kinkos and Goodwill, we made it.  APE badges on..Greg's says G.c., but why the lowercase "c"?

too be continued....
